Hello everyone, Im a newby goat owner and come from BYC :) I have 2 7 month old Nigerian wethers and a brand new Togg I just got that is about 2 1/2 yrs old and supposedly pregnant. My family and I started getting goats and chickens s our new part of homesteading. The wethers were just to kind of give us a heads up on goat owning till we got the hang of it. Now we have been wanting one for milk. I know a lot of ppl say, don't buy your animals online, make sure they have papers and are of the highest quality and all that Jazz but like I said, Im new and am wanting to get my family prepped for anything that might happen in this crazy world :) I advertised my situation on Craigslist and had a lady respond about this togg she had. Her name is Heidi and from what they tell me she is pregnant. I asked when she was bred and they of course don't know. All they said was that Heidi was penned in with a couple of Nubian bucks in August, sold them the end of August, bought an Oberhalsi buck after that, penned him with her and then sold him the end of October. Since I cant post pictures yet, is there another way i can show you all these pictures? hoping maybe someone can tell me if so and how much longer maybe so i can start getting her are out back ready for all this. Oh, and this would be her second baby. One last question since I'm sure someone could tell me, is it true that togg milk is the worst tasting out of all the dairy breeds? My plan was to get a dairy goat for consumption and am just reading these rumors. I knew I should have researched better. Well thanks everyone. :)

I think the taste of the milk has more to do with diet and hygiene than the breed. Of course, each breed produces differing levels of butterfat so there would possibly be a difference in texture, I suppose??? I am new to all of this, too. But based on what I have researched you should have wonderful nutritious milk if you feed them right and practice clean milking.

Papers and all that is just not true. A well fed, well cared for goat will give you years of service. SO don't worry. However, the different breeds do provide different levels of butterfat content. And within each breed each doe is different. Crossbreeds often produce great milk. So fear not! And you can breed your does "up" to get better does later on. Just feed them good hay and good grain. Make sure they get top quality minerals and are vaccinated and wormed regularly. You may end up with some really good producers.

Congrats and welcome!
I use Photobucket for pictures instead of uploading to byh.
I am a newbie too so I can't give any help on the milk of your doe. Good luck. I do think you will be pleasantly surprised.

According to your dates, she would be due end of this month or sooner if she was bred to one of the nubian bucks. I don't see anyway she could be pregnant and due in 2 or 3 weeks.

Then you have the other buck that was put in with her until the end of October. That would put her latest due date the end of March. I could see that being more likely, If she is pregnant at all. I am not seing anything screaming that she is for sure pregnant. But if she was only 3 months pregnant it may still be a little hard to telll.

I believ Toggs are seasonal breeders and more likely to come in heat in the fall. So it would make sense that she didn't come into heat with the nubians and came into heat a little later.
