Hi!

I'm new to the forum. We're just started raising pygmy goats. We have two bottle fed babies who are so sweet and adorable. Sally loves to jump, climb, and follow me around. Lyris loves to eat, eat, and eat.

They both love playing with the kids, too. I know they're not traditionally dairy breeds, but we will be milking them in the future.

Very happy to have found this place.

We have pygmy goats, GLW chickens, KC and Rouen ducks, and cats. Our goats, there are 3 of them, consist of 2 wethers and a 10yr old doe. We have had them for about a yr and a half now and we really enjoy them and have learned alot and are still learning. My suggestion is, if you are going to milk them, then make sure you continue to handle them and touch them often, especially in the teat area. Some don't mind it, but others do. It is easier to train at a young age, than to wait for them to get older. Something else that ya can do to help ya here is to add your geneal location to your banner. This will help any to see quickly your area and possibilities that your locale can present, this will be at least one question that can be answered without having to ask. We have a great group of folks here more than willing to help you with your animals and possible problems ya might face. There is a ton of info in the Forums and Threads, and pics too....we all love pics....so, in browzing around if ya have a question, comment, or advice just jump in and post away. Oh, and don't hesitate to post pics too.

Oh, girls get handled everyday. By the whole family, too. I'll be sure to focus more attention to that area. I've been in their mouths a lot, lol. Their heads, hooves, they've been held. They were both two weeks old when we got them, bottle fed obviously. I feed both one at a time too.

I never thought about the teats though. Thanks!

We lived in Central Florida for about 6yrs. Our address was out of Groveland, but had to go to Clermont or Leesburg to shop. We had a house on 3acres off of Hwy 19 about 2 miles south of US 27 and the Toll road. Having driven a truck locally there, I ran all over that area.

One thing about pygmies too, that ya may or may not know, is they will cycle all yr long. It can become important to know in case ya get a buck, or ya start to notice a behavioral change and ya wonder if something may be wrong with them. They can become more vocal and don't eat as much. If the smell of a buck is in the air, they will often stare in that direction and be very determined to head in that direction. This is what we have observed from our 10yr old doe. I know ya will enjoy them, we sure do.
