We, my children and I, have been doing lots of research so we can be better goat owners. Raising Goats for Dummies has all the info i have needed so far. We purchased all the food and minerals needed for the two kids we are getting in the morning (4-16-11). They were born on 2-21-11.

When we were at the local feed store a dairy farmer we know said he could band our little buck to become a wether. Now I have read that banding them too young can cause urinary problems. We are going to wait till the male kid is three months old. The sister doe is black and white with a distinct V mark on her side and the male is a tan and white color.

The farmer we are purchasing them from said they come when called and are almost weaned. We are going to try bottle feeding them for a week. The human kids have a week off from school to help orient the new family members. No sleeping in for them,ha, ha, ha.

I know this probably sounds so familier on this thread but we are so excited. We are owned by 19 chics and chickens, three dogs, and one chinchilla. We will post pictures sometime this weekend. They are so very adorable. My DH has been wonderful in all our animal travels and always is supportive in our new adventures.

Congrats!

I would recommend wethering your boy sooner than 3 mos - they're fertile around 8 weeks of age and he *could* impregnate his sister! You'll probably have no luck bottle feeding them at that age...

Have fun with them! Goats are a blast!

I just had to band ours yesterday at 8 weeks of age on the dot. He's been being very "frisky" lately. If you wait till 3 months you're probably looking at having a doeling who is pregnant way too young and by her brother to boot :sick I understand wanting to wait even longer, believe me I'd prefer it but I don't have the setup to separate 1 young boy to give him more than 8 weeks.

:welcome

Thank you to all of you knowledgable goat owners. We will be neutering the kid buck within the next week.

Here are some pictures we took yesterday. We had so many visitors you'd think we had twin human babies. The black and white is a doe named Gizmo. The tan is a soon to be wether named Humphry. As yo can see they are very sweet, love to cuddle and Gizmo so far is potty trained. We are so happy with these two little ones. They dont seem to have any signs of seperation anxiety from their mother.
