Hi! I am new to this site, and somewhat new to rabbits. I have a six to eight week old Rex, (I think :/) that I got a few weeks ago. When I got him, he had been living outside, (Wandering freely, no cage,) with his mom, dad, and 3 or 4 siblings. I had asked if I could catch him and keep him, because his mother had been torn up by a neighbor's cat, (the left side of her face was swollen, no skin on her neck, couldn't catch her,) and the other sibling I caught had little to no hair. ( I think it was sick.) So, I brought the little guy home and put him in with a rabbit I had who had babies his age. He nursed off of her, and he was healthy and happy.

Starting yesterday, however, he started acting droopy. He just lies around while the other bunnies play. He acts like he is hungry, but doesn't eat much. So now I am thinking he may have parasites and/or worms. What can you give a six week old rabbit for wormer? Or do you think he needs it? I love the little guy, and I don't like to see him like this. Thanks for the help!

well let me say, :welcome
sorry your little bunny is not feeling well. i do not think he needs worming. i think he may have gi stasi, where his guts do not move food like they should. he may appear bloated and slossy. childrens gas-x and lots of tummy rubs, and keeping him warm. try to get some canned pumpkin into him, and good luck. be prepared, he may not make it. :hu

He does seem bloated and sluggish. What do you mean slossy? He is a little worse this morning. I opened the cage to feed them and he didn't even open his eyes. :( I will try what you suggested. Thanks for the help!

I think she meant "sloshy" as in, there is a sloshing sound from his belly if you gently shake or move him. If he is bloated, sloshy, and lethargic you need to act fast to save him. Pull him from the litter, no pellets, only hay or rolled oats like quaker old fashioned oatmeal and water. Give him GasX or Baby gas drops and massage his belly to help with the bloat. Get some ProBios Paste or BeneBac paste (TSC has this) and give him a half inch long piece twice a day to help his gut bacteria. If he is not drinking, try to syringe some water into his mouth. And, like someone else said, be prepared for him to not make it. I am sorry, and I hope that he does make it.

If a rabbit gets lethargic its not good. Rabbits can go from healthy and fine to OMG in less than 24 hours. I'm finding this out the hard way.
I have a pen of seven week olds that went south on friday. Started out they didnt rush to the food tray. Then they got bloated and slosshy sounding.

GI stasis for sure. But I can't figure out what is causing it so that I can prevent it.

Did you hear the little guy grind his teeth. I have heard the sick ones do this.

I am suspecting that with mine somehow cocci got ahold in their systems. For treatment I have used sulmet and gas drops. So far the treatment has had disapointing results. I have saved a few but lost most.

I am going to try corid. Someone suggested this treatment. So I am going to try it.
This condition causes them great pain as well. So something to control pain is nec. Rabbits go into shock pretty easy. I have used infant tylenal to try to control pain. Horse paste banamine worked real well and did not seem to harm them. But I would check with your vet first on that.

Keep a close eye on the rest of them. So far my exp. is that if one goes down there is a good chance more will get sick.

Let me know how it goes.

Also what treatment you go with and how it went.
