I really don't have a favorite livestock choice. I grew up in the country where we raised our own food (pigs, chickens, rabbits, cows, vegetables, etc.). I remember as a child, I couldn't wait to get to the big city and away from the farm life. I grew up on the back of a hay wagon and hated every minute of it.
I grew up and went out on my own. Sadly, the older I got, the smarter my father became. As I learned life's lessons, I realized that things would have been easier if I had just listened to my dad.
I am now going back to my roots. I have purchased myself a plot of land, horses, dogs, chickens, and rabbits. I have my garden going and can't wait to start canning, freezing, and dehydrating.
I am looking for a couple of pigs and milk goats. I am very intersted in making cheese and yoguart. I am just shocked at the cost of dairy goats!
As a child, punishment was sitting in a corner with the milk churn and plunger. Now, I find myself looking foward to doing that!
My goal is to be self-sustained if the need arrives. I am still learning how and this seems like a great place to ask stupid questions if I need to!
