My Nigerian Dwarf buckling is a month old and I took him to be disbudded (too long to wait I know) and he's got a big bandage wrapped around his head. It's lime green and when his mother sees him she runs away in terror. He is eating grain and we have him separated for now but is it safe for him to be away from her at this point? The bandages have to stay on for two days. What should I do? He was an only child so she isn't nursing anyone but him.

Four weeks is too young. I didn't wean until 10 weeks. Put her on the milk stand and stick him under her. She won't like it but it will get him what he needs.

Do you have a different color of vetwrap you could wrap over the green stuff? Something that matches his color? Maybe that would help.

When I disbudded my kids, I offered them back to mother butt first. That way, she didn't smell the singed fur/skin when she first got her kids back. Seemed to work like a charm!

Also, the bandages are likely not necessary. A lot of folks just spray on some blue kote or something similar to protect the wounds, and the kids are good. The burn areas should be dry, if they're oozy, it wasn't done correctly.
