One of my does has had 2 bald spots on her side for about a month now. I was thinking it was mites and went ahead and got some Ivermec and I've given her 2 injections, with the second one 10 days from the first and I have a 3rd one ready to go when it's time. My problem is nothing has changed in terms of the way the spots look. I would have thought that her hair would have started showing signs of coming back in the 15 days I've been actively treating her. The bald spots are about the size of a quarter and one is located on her right front shoulder and the other near her rear flank. They seem to be at about the same height level in location about 3 or 4 inches down from her midline of her spine. I see no parasites or skin breakdowns associated with these bald places. The smallest of the 2 spots has a discolored brownish area on one side of it. Hopefully you can see it in the second picture below. None of the other goats have this problem. She doesn't seem to have any symptoms associated with this, i.e., no excessive scratching of those areas and one of them she can reach quite easily and no redness or scaling I can detect. The remainder of her coat looks great, and in fact all the goats' coats look wonderful right now. So I don't think it could be a mineral deficiency, especially since the others look good too. Any idea what this could be or what I should try next? :hu I'm not really sure if it could be that she is rubbing the hair off at those places on the fencing we have. I don't think they are located in areas that have prominent, bony underlying structures where rubbing on the fencing would pull the hair out. Here are some pics, but they aren't very good, mostly because the camera I was using creates kind of fuzzy pictures when you zoom in. Not to mention I have 3 other goats wanting my attention and were nipping at me and rubbing on me the whole time I was taking the pictures.

This is the largest of the 2, located along the flank area.

This is the spot that has the brownish area located in the higher leftward area.

Could it possibly be ringworm?
Haven't thought about ringworm. Could be. Can you use human antifungal on a goat? I'm willing to try it.
probably, especially if you aren't butchering the goat in the next few months.

NuStock also will work it is a lotion for horses. around $13.00 for a tube.

I have no idea. :hu
Maybe you could do a skin scrape? :hu

Are these places she could get to by chewing or horn scratching?

I was wondering that maybe it isn't sucking lice/mites but biting... ivermectin inj will do nothing for biting mites/lice. You would be better off with a spray on. Spray on kills biting and sucking mites/lice.

BTW- I get the pics things... goats... they can be sooo uncooperative!

I doubt she could get to both places by using her horns or by chewing. I've never seen her do either to either place. I guess I will just have to experiment and see what works. At least you have given me some directions to head! I knew someone would have ideas. I will try one at a time for a week or 2 at a time and see which works. Just want my babies to be healthy! Thanks for the ideas everyone!

Shoulder/side of the chest and hip are areas I typically use for injections. I have had a few of my goats end up with bald spots from injections if they move and it gets into the skin instead of under it. Could these be injection sites?
