My sow has piglets still nursing on her, but i have found that she has mites. I looked up what they were and found out they are 'pig louse'. The piglets are now scratching too so i know they have them. What can i safely treat the sow with while the piglets are nursing? And what can i safely treat 4 week old piglets with? They are tamworths (to give idea of size/weight)

Ok do i get pour on? Or is it the injectable and just use it as a pour on? If for mites and not worms then how much per weight? Sorry if this is all info ill find on the bottle, i just only know ivermectin to be injectable so id think it only had instructions for that.

I'm not sure which form would be best, but I'd think either one should work. Maybe the pour on would be best if you're only going after external parasites. Be sure to change their bedding after treating them.

Lice are very common in pigs & incredibly difficult to get rid of permanently. The only permanent cure we found were chickens. Once our chickens started free ranging amongst the pigs the lice disappeared! Yee Haa!

You can use Dectomax as an injectible - we used that as we were weaning. Gets rid of any worms too.

Some folks have recommended pouring vegetable oil on them also & then they lick the eggs off!

The most natural way though are chickens :)

Dusting with sulfur powder works well too. Funny ... chickens get lice too. ;)

We use "Pour-On, Boss" It is a permethrin, cattle insecticide, but works awesome on the pigs. We even use it 1 week old piglets! In really bad cases, we have had to use a second treatment in 2 weeks, but most of the time once does it!
