Since we ended up with 3 bucklings out of a total of four babies, we have decided to buy at least once more doeling.

www.hoytfarms.com has two "experimental" doelings which are a nubian/lamancha/togg combo, which is acutally what we were wanting. A blue girl out of Skunk (150) and a roan girl out of Chocolatepie(175) with papers. We are defintiely going to get the blue girl, but should we go ahead and get the Roan girl as well? They are not related to each other, and For the price of an adult good milking doe, we can get two and raise them with ours.

What do y'all suggest?

It is so hard to say. It is very easy to say get both. Do you have enough room. Is this what you are looking for. What is your plan for your goats. All that will have to play into it.

If you just need that push to go ahead and get both, then I say get both of them! ;)

An established herd can be hard on outsiders, and most any goat needs -- or, at least, gets by a whole lot better -- with at least one friend in the field. Bringing a lone new doeling into an established herd of mature does would, in all likelihood, cause the doeling a good deal of stress.

To me, that concern actually goes a little bit further than simply providing you with a reasonable excuse to buy the both of them. I'd actually say it goes so far as to give you a bonafide reason, especially if you're toying with the idea already.

Personally....I'd sooner do it than not and have to worry over the loner's safety and sense of wellbeing.

Just my $.02.
