We have three milk does. 1 Alpine 1 Nubian 1 Saanen. We love our big goats and the amount of milk they give us. The Saanen is now a pet because of on going breeding/birthing problem and we are having trouble getting our Alpine bread. Nubian is fine. The Opportunity fell into my lap to day to get some Nigerian does in milk for FREE. The family has fallen onto hard times and just want them to go somewhere safe. I know nothing about Nigerians or how they are in regards to amount of milk, flavor of milk, ease of milking, personality etc. What are your thoughts?

I don't have a ton of experience with goats, but our two are ND. One in milk. We really like the sweetness of the milk and their personalities are both really nice. We are on a small lot (1/3 acre), so the size works better for us. My one milker was giving us 4 cups a day (2 cups 2x day), she is down to just under 2 cups (since we bred her) and we have gone to a once a day milking.

I'd say go for it if you have the space/resources to provide a good home. They really are super cute. :)

My thoughts would be sounds great, but make sure they are tested and disease free before you allow them near the goats you already have. I always worm a new goat the day I get it too, so they don't bring any new creatures home to my place.

If you don't want them you could send them my way ;) ....I have five and LOVE mine and their personalities...haven't gotten to the milking yet, but have heard that it's sweeter than other breeds due to the higher fat content.

My thoughts are NDs are get some....:p They take up less room than large breeds, eat less, are easy kidders and good mothers, give very good tasting milk (and one in milk, if they are from good milking lines, could keep your family in all the milk you want). Their size also makes them easier to handle (for kids, trimming hooves, giving meds, and such). Their coats come in endless colors and pattens.

I would be worried about CL and CAE have then been tested? If not I would be weary of putting your current herd at risk.
