My 6yr old Mare has the same issues I found that a shorter pull on the spray bottle trigger, but i usually spay a glove with the fly spray and wipe her body down by hand, I also keep a fly mask (pre-sprayed) on her face. She an ex racer TB passed around to often but the sweetest Brat of a horse anyway try the soaked glove and the spray distraction and spray slow less hisssss SNAKE!! instinct playing it's part too
