Overbaked litter and a kit with a deformed ear.

I have a doe who was due on the 15th, but she didn't have her kits until this morning. She had eight kits - seven average sized kits, and one runt, and they were born with fur! One of the average sized kits has a deformed ear. One ear is small and pointy, and it looks like it won't have an ear canal opening. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before? Is there something my doe might be deficient in that could have caused this?

This is the does fourth litter for me, her average litter size was 14, and all the litters have been with the same buck. She had never gone over her due date before. Also this is the first kit with a deformation that I have ever had in my herd born alive and not a stillborn.

I've never had a kit born with a deformed ear...is it possible the doe chewed some of it off?

Tried researching it real quick too and I can't find anything about deformed ears in kits
When they go more than 2 days over their due date, the kits are born with fur...just as they would have that fur 2 days after being born. At 4 days past-due I can imagine they have quite a bit of fur on them!

It hadn't been chewed. I'll get a picture in a little bit when I get done with my tomato canning project I'm working on.

I have only found one picture on Google that really looks like it so far, and it's an older rabbit. It's the Siamese colored rabbit about 2/3 of the way down the page.

Another not so disturbing abnormality in this litter is a very unusual looking false charlie. The mother is a chestnut and had never produced a kit like this before.

What color is the dad of that one?

As for the ear...never seen that before but I saw the one in the article you sent. I honestly don't know on that one!

The dad is a normal single gene broken tort. I'm baffled. I've never even seen a true charlie with that much white.

I don't know what caused the ear deformity. It could be recessive genes from the buck and doe matched up and this kit is the result. In any case, it is not one that would be suitable for breeding. Have you bred this buck and doe together before?
