Here is little Peaches, sorry the pics aren't the greatest........

Her mommy, Sephira, sleeps by that window every nite and stands there all day watching her......

Peaches in the left bottom corner in the blanket.

I take Peaches outside a few times a day to get sunshine and to practice standing. She is almost getting up on her own now, but needs a little help steadying herself. I took a towel and put under her to help hold her up and she tried her hand at walking around outside for a few minutes. Momma hummed and licked her. Peaches is still a bratt about taking the bottle, but once she gives in I am able to get about 2 oz in her each feeding.

She still is not pooing regularly, how often should I use the water ennima ?

Peaches is adorable. More than likely, she is absorbing most of the milk so won't be pooping much. A lot of times, I don't see any poop the first week. I wouldn't do an enema more than every other day if you feel she needs it. I don't want to say she shouldn't poop at all because that isn't true either.

Is it possible that mom was bred to an alpaca? I just can't believe that a 12 pound llama cria is surviving. Especially when 20 lbs is usually the low end of weight for a llama cria. 12 lbs is even considered low for alpaca crias. I'm happy to see her sitting up. Sounds like she is on the road to recovery.

Keep up the good work! :thumbsup

Goodness.

I'm not saying anything about how you are helping that little one. A weak baby needs help.

But my heart aches for that momma! She just about had me teared up with the expression she had as she peered thru the window.

We had a situation like that with a calf. We had to bring the calf in, but momma hung around waiting and watching. When we would bring the calf out to her, she would come over and talk to it, clean it etc, even though her milk had long dried up. It was really hard to have to pull that calf away from her momma and take her back inside.

Poor Momma Llama!

I know it breaks my heart too. yesterday she followed me all the way down the driveway to the gate when I went to get my husband. I kept telling her Peaches was still in the house and I didn't have her, but she didn't believe me, lol. This is her first baby, I am surprised at how good she is. I take her out as often as I can so momma can snuggle her. She does have the young Alpaca to keep her some company and give her something to mother. I was milking mom to give some to the baby, perhaps I should keep doing it so she won't dry up and hopefully Peaches will be able to nurse soon....

I did have a male Alpaca, but I believe my friend bought him before anything could have, but it could be possible.............. :idunno

I would keep trying to get the little one to nurse on mom. I know nothing about llamas, but wondered if maybe nursing on mom and being supplemented with a bottle would work. I hope you can get to that point because, that momma looks like she really would be a good thing for the baby. If mom lets you milk her I think I would keep it up so she doesn't dry up. I would be so tempted to let her spend time with mom in a heated stall or something, I would even be tempted to sleep in the stall with them at night with a back up bottle so they could be together. :hide You are doing a great job with her and I hope she learns to nurse soon. :fl
edited to add *that I just read your other post about her birth, and that you already tried all the things I mentioned. :hide

Thanks everyone for your support...... :hugs

I took Peachy outside for a little bit today. i wrapped a towel around her belly for support and let her walk were she wanted to go. She seems to be getting stronger and standing longer. She pooed while she was standing there.... Momma cleaned her up and kept licking her and looking at me. Momma likes to give kisses and she tried to give me one. I'd like to think she knows I'm trying to help instead of being the baby snatcher, LOL. I retried the red nipple on the 8oz bottle and she hungerly sucked at least a 1/4 down. I've been giving her more, as much as she'll take in small amounts. I have to watch her constantly because she is squirming out of the blanket and her cush position and wiggling across the floor in her attempts to walk. If I have to fold her legs one more time this hour.....
I hope she makes it, she is so silly.
