I am loving this thread, and when I can get on my belly, LOL I may go back and start at the beginning and do it also. Right now, just thinking about my belly makes me want to take a picture of it and submit it for the UGLY pic.

Blaine:

Would you download the cactus pic and crop it like you are talking about? I'd really like to see it how you would make it.

Your gear stick shot is pretty good, but your chainsaw pic.....WOW! I love it! That is a really nice job. The next time you take a picture with a line in it, try to get the line at a diagonal that is NOT going from corner to corner and see what you think. You could try it with the chainsaw and compare the two, if you want. It's ok if you dont like it.......

Your focusing on all the those last three pictures was terrific! :thumbsup

Elevan:

You had a cool angle going on here, it's obvious that you felt the pinecones were an important part of the pic. You also did a good job deciding from which side to take the pic...if you would have gone to the other side, the shadows in the pic would have been lost. Your pinecones and even those shadows are the pics within that pic.

Sheepgirl:

I'm afraid that you failed this assignment. I'm sorry to have to say this, but your pics are not ugly. lol. Seriously, You did a good job on these, they are actually very nice. The charcoal pic is very crisp, even. The texture and shades of grey add a lot of interest. I hard macro shot of the piece with the large holes would be spectacular.

The pic of the dead wood and hay feeder is also interesting. I like the shot like it is, but it has alot of potential as a whole just from a more creative angle. I do like that you went ahead and looked for the pic within the pic and got the wood. Did you consider the "stump" portion at the end of the wood log with all the pieces sticking out.......with some harsh lighting and a cool angle, you could have something there.

Nice!

Well oops :hide

Lol, I will see about getting a picture of the piece with the large holes tomorrow. I will try to zoom in closer to get more texture.

But I didn't consider the stump portion. I will use your advice and also try to take a picture of the end...and I'll try to get a bunch of different angles of it, too.

My camera was doing something weird so the color is off. This is a root ball I found on my farm. I actually plan to put it in the flower bed and turn something ugly into something pretty.

It looks like your white balance may be off. Check your user manual to see if you can figure out how to re-set your white balance to "auto". If you cant' and you are still having the problem, let me know and we will get it fixed.

The color thing doesnt have to be bad.........I've intentionally take a few pics with with the white balance "wrong", sometimes they turn out pretty cool.

I hope you'll show pics when you get it into your flowerbed! Did you notice any pics within the pic?

You were right! Once I figured out how to find the white balance option I changed it and it looks normal now. I have no idea how it got changed in the first place. Did I mention that I am not technologically inclined?

As for pics w/i a pic, I think the moss on the lower left corner it kind of interesting. Also, with the camera set right you will be better able to see the knarly things near the top center. Maybe I will focus in on those two portions?
