We had our first baby born last night. It was a great birth, no problems at all. I just want to make sure I'm not forgetting to do anything. I gave the doe some warm water with molasses and grain after she had passed the placenta and let the little one nurse. I plan on doing a fecal today or tomorrow to see if I need to worm. Should I just go ahead and worm or is it okay to wait? Also, is there anything I can put on her to help with soreness or swelling? The little buckling has been active and nursing. We dipped his cord and made sure he was nursing good before we left. I checked on him several times throughout the night. Does he need anything else? I have BOSE, probios and other stuff but wasn't planning on giving anything unless he appeared weak.

UPDATE: Okay, we are on day 3 and I would like to know what normal kid behavior is. He get's up and walks around a little and wags his tail some. I've noticed this morning he has been laying down more. I put him and mom out in the pen separate from the others to get some sunshine today. He would walk a few feet and then go down on his knees for a few seconds then get up and walk some more. He is also panting with his mouth open and I haven't noticed him doing that before.

I also noticed a dog log poop this morning from mom. I am making some solution to run a fecal tomorrow. Will it be okay to wait until tomorrow or should I just worm her today in case?

sounds like everything is going well. I would personally wait 4 or 5 day to do the fecal. But many people just worm them after kidding as a routine practice. We rarely do fecals. I wait about a week and if the doe seems to be loosing weight or not 100% then I worm.

I do a fecal anywhere from 3-10 days later to see if they need to be wormed. I do my own fecals though.

Just ask questions in a new post. It's too much trouble to go back up to read. Most of us keep up with the posts. Thanks

Sorry I don't know much about how the kid should be acting.

you are fine to wait to run the fecal, as far as the kid... hmmm goat kids are pretty active, they have big spurts of energy then get tired and on and on.

Late to this but what kind of goat? What region are you in? day night temps etc.
