My Togg just kidded Feb 26. Our buck kept on busting into her pen. Everything was going well with milking and nursing her kids up until this past week. She is a pain on the stand, doing everything she can, including taking the whole stand down with her to avoid being milked. She will not allow her twins near her to nurse during the day either. I am in the process of trying to wean the completely, and trying to transition her into milking 2x a day, but she is just TOTALLY unwilling. She kicks the bucket, kicks me, even when I hobble her, she kicks her legs completely off the stand in all attempts to keep me away from her utter.

I am stumped! Normally, she is a "shove her face in her feed and do what you want" good little goatie. Took her a while to get used to the stand, but other than that, no problems. This past week has been HELL! Add to that, her belly is getting bigger, and her attitude is very, very stand offish, like it was when she was pregnant the first time.

I'm worried this is too much on her system. I will be taking her to the vet this week, but what can I do to soften the blow here? Make it easier on her. She is my baby :( My world.

Well, she seems a little worse for wear today. Just annoyed, tired, and really bothered. I've been giving her electrolytes. Made sure she has plenty of minerals, baking soda, grain, hay, and water. She is eating well. Gobbing up her treats, fresh veggies, and scraps. I just wormed her, but she's giving clumpy piles again. The only vet in the area that can see her this week wants to charge astronomical fees, upwards of $300 for an office visit, blood draw, and a fecal test. In all honesty, that's just outrageous for a visit to the vet before even finding out what's wrong. I'm almost sure she's pregnant again.

I am going to try to go out of state to find a vet tomorrow. There are a fair few farms around here, there has to be more than 1 vet around that will see goats! The one I have dealt with in the past is always out of town, or unavailable. I think he is transitioning into retirement.

I am just beside myself right now. I see a lot of people are reading this post. If anyone has any advice, even to call me an idiot for overlooking something quite obvious, please do so.

How's her condition?....is she underweight? If she looks good I wouldn't worry about her being pregnant too much.

Sorry, I don't have any advice on the attitude regarding milking...we haven't gotten into that yet ourselves.

Are you sure it's not some mastitis brewing in regards to the milking attitude? I'd do a CMT just to rule that out.

x2

I know all goats are different but I milked mine for the first 2 months that she was bred a d her kids nursed until the next kids were born. I would be worried that something hurts when her udder is touched

She does look a little under weight to me, hollowed out in the hips. "Dairyish" Her belly is rather large though. I'm going to run a test tonight when I have an extra set of hands, it has gotten to that point. She has normally been my easiest keeper, and now, I feel like I'm in a flipping avalanche with her! She's getting nasty with her doelings come feeding time too. The only time she's ever gotten nasty over food with, was when we had our buck in the same pen with the girls last year.

My doe got re-bred about a month after her kids were born. I didn't get the buck out in time. My fault. Anyway, I sold her kids when they were 3 weeks old and I milked her up until the middle of May. I wanted to let her dry up before the new kids are born. They are due in August. I noticed that her milk production was going down, but no other issues.
