Welcome to BYH
I am new here too and started back up in rabbits late last Summer after a twenty year break( We had them as a kid up into college)
I mark 28 days on my calendar or the records I keep on each rabbit, 31 days, and 35 days. If my doe has not kindled, I take out the nest box on Day# 35

I do one other thing that helps, but seldom ever have had to use it. I collect pulled hair or hair that was molted and store it in a feed sack or something smaller. Lots of time the Doe will pull a little fur if it gets cooler after she's kindled or kick some out if it gets warmer. Before I take the box out when the kits are around 18 days old(After Day#18 risk of eye infection runs higher due to unsanitary conditions building up in the nest box), I will try to save some clean fur that has not been soiled. IF a doe kindles and does not pull fur, you can go to this sack as an emergency backup.

Hope some of this helps, and let us know what transpires :)

Welcome to BYH! Best wishes for your bunny to have a safe and healthy delivery and kits!!
From what I remember: my first pregnant doe didn't pull out a lot of fur the first time she kindled, but when I found the bunnies, there was fur there with them, so she must have pulled some later on! The next time she did pull fur earlier on though.
The thing I found with her, is don't move the doe to a different cage, if you need to move them, until after the babies have been born. My doe wouldn't have her bunnies until I brought her back out to her original cage! :)

Looks like you've gotten some good shared experiences :thumbsup There's a really nice group of folks on here who will jump in and help anyone who needs it... you just need to ask! I probably didn't NEED to tag anyone, but since you seemed in a hurry, thought that might help speed things up just a bit ;) As you can see, many responders weren't even tagged :clap

To use the forums is easy. When you first come to the site, you'll see some "tabs" up top on the left just under the first pictures. You should automatically open on the forums, but if not, just click the forums tab, and they'll list out down the page under major headings. The first says "Main" the second says "Herds General". The 5th one down is rabbits! Then each major section is further broken down into various categories. If you click on a category, you'll then get a list of all the various "threads" (conversations) by title, that have happened or are happening in that category. This is a thread started by you titled Pregnant Bunny, but instead of being in the rabbit section, it's in the new member introductions section (no biggie!) Anyway, If you see a category or thread of interest, click it and start reading :caf

Welcome again and best of luck with Stormy!

A big howdy and welcome from the Great Lone Star State. where the stars at night are big and bright! Sounds like your little lady is setting up the nursery to suit herself. Good luck with the kits. A suggestion for you is to feed your doe her regular amount for the first couple days after she kindles to allow her milk to come in naturally. After that you can free feed her so she can keep up with the demands being made on her body. I don't know how much experience you have with bunnies, but don't think your doe is a bad mom if she is not spending every minute with the kits. Does will normally pop into the nest in the morning and again in the evening to make herself available for the kits to nurse. That's about it on her mothering skills until the kits get older and start jumping in and out of the nest. You want to check the kits to see that their little tummies are round and they are warm.

Depending on what you have planned for the kits, I start handling my kits after the first day.. scooping each one up and talking to it and gently rubbing them individually. This gets them used to my smell and voice. As they get older/bigger you can handle them more. Handling them now will help make them more friendly later.

Glad to have you here, please do post pictures of the kits as all of us really enjoy all the pictures. Bunnies Rule (just don't tell my goaties I said that).

Let us know if you have any questions, comments, concerns or anything else regarding your doe. We all want to be successful and talking with each other just helps to make that happen.

Just another update!

It is 8:45 at night my bunny's (Stormy) due date is today, but from what I understand they often have their babies at night. I just went and checked on her and she has made the nest and it is all ready, (except for the hair) and warm :) I also felt her belly and I could feel little kicks! I will check tomorrow morn and see what happens!

Also I remember reading that first time mothers often don't have much surviving babies, if not at all. Is this true? Even if it is, i have been preparing myself for some sadness. Thanks for all the helpful advice!:D =D
