I haven't been on here in a LONG time----I spilled milk meant for the cat on my laptop keyboard (last spring?) and haven't replaced it---but I just had to get to the library and post about my doe Flory's new babies! She delivered quads just last night---got done around midnight. Two are solid black and the other two black and white---one has a lot of white and looks like a holstein! Well just wanted to share----don't know the sexes yet or whether I will have to bottle-feed.

Our Toggenburg had quads three weeks ago. Today we ran out of the last of the frozen milk supply from last year. What has worked for us, is that we ended up leaving two with mom and bottle feeding two and keeping them in a separate nursery. The bottle babies get mom's morning milk and the other two get put back with mom after she's milked in the morning Confusing! Now they get the bottle 3 times day.

At three weeks they are with the herd for a few hours a day and all of them are locked up from mom at night. I'm short 1/2 gallon a day. Waiting on another doe to kid so we can get her milk for these bottle babies.
;)

Fun, fun!

Sorry, I still haven't gotten around to posting the pics----I have to go to my hubby's office to do that with his computer.:p Anyway, the quads are doing really well just nursing from mom---she has a wonderful udder! They were all disbudded this weekend and the boys banded and all received their first CD-T shots. I promise to post pics soon!

I bought a couple bottle babies to use this fall as my herd sire, I knew I was not going to have enough milk for all the babies, the place I got them from said to buy calf milk replacer , non-medicated (WHOLE MILK... NOT SOY ) and use that when I don't have enough milk. I have 4 babies on this right now, they get mostly the replacer about 1/3 real milk, sometimes I dump in some whole cow milk from the store, they are doing GREAT, growing like crazy. I use the bucket method, just fill it twice a day and they eat when they want.

Sorry,

now back to the thread...

WE WANT PICTURES!!! PLEASE???

Well, right now I have a little extra milk. I started bottle feeding my two kids a couple weeks ago because the boy is leaving and I wanted to gentle the doeling. I am getting almost a gallon a day and using about half of it. Anyone needing it, close to Jackson,Tn, give me a shout.
