On a Nubian you should be getting close to a gallon a day milking twice a day. Don't feed the baby whole milk from the store it is not good for them. They need colostrum for the first couple days and then she needs formula for goats sold at your local ag shop or online. Hope more milk starts coming make sure she is getting plenty of fresh water and good grain to eat!!

we use whole milk for our kids. Lots of people do.

Your doe should be producing more milk than that. Is she a full sized nubian? About how big would you say she is? Is she really young. I know she is wild.

I can't remember how you discribed her in other posts.

how many times a day are you milking, are you completely emptying the udder? milk production grows in response to demand, if you aren't regular in your milking schedule 2x/day would be good but also at the same time of day and not emptying the udder she won't think that there is a need to produce any more milk.

also be sure she is getting plenty of quality forage and hay 24/7, have you had a fecal done on her?

best of luck

If her udder is empty, a milking machine isn't going to pull any more milk out. Are you sure it's empty when you're done, or is she just holding back? An empty udder looks like a deflated balloon. If it's still big and round, there's more milk in there.

Plus you really don't want to spend around $1500 on a machine for just one goat!

Ive seen little manual hand pump milkers. They are still a little pricey but not as much as an actual machine would be. I dont know anything about goats but would working in a 3rd milking help up her production? That might tell her body she needs to make more. Hope that helps and i hope it gets better.

My guess is, she is upset.

She may not take care of the kid, you will know right away, if she goes up to it, and licks and talks to it, all is great. but if she walks away, or acts upset to have the kid near her, she has decided it isn't hers.

The kid would be old enough at this point to just let the doe dry up and put the kid on straight whole cows milk, 3 bottles a day.
