Exploring the pasture
I have lots of questions. Please bear with me, I'm a newbie to goats. I have 5 Nigerian Dwarfs. I would rather spend a few dollars on something and not need it than need it and have to wait for it to arrive (speaking from experience, and having 16 chickens die while the post office shipped meds to the wrong address and having to drive 50 miles to get the meds that were sweltering in 113* temps)...so being prepared and over spent is okay in my book.
I'm putting together my Jeffers order for all kinds of things I am going to get for my goats and chickens and had a few questions.
I saw in the dehorner section a product called Dehorning Paste. The discrption says to use it before 2 months, no cutting or bleeding. Would it be safe to assume this is a product to inhibit the growth of horns? I don't want to order it and find out its not something I can or something I shouldn't use.
I'm also ordering enough Essential CDT+3 To vaccinate all the goats.
Is there any other vaccines I should get (1 unknown aged doe with a doeling she nurses, 2 bottle fed bucks, one 7 month old doe) my 7 month old will be bred an about 5 or so months.
Corid 1.25% Pellets for coccidiosis prevention. It seemed similar to Deccox Medicated crumbles but the label indicated a need to use less (volume) of medication per animal weight. It said .04 per 100 lbs and deccox was 1 oz per 100 lbs so it seemed I would have more treatments with Corks. Please correct me if this isn't right.
Should I pick up a pink eye vaccine or pink eye/blackleg combo?
What about a Pasturella vaccine?
Or Chlamydia vaccine?
Mastitis vaccines??
Or is there one vaccine that will cover most of my concsrns?
Which wormer should I use?
Is there any nutrition suppliments that are good to have on hand in the event of a sick goat?
I'm also thinking of ordering Tylan 200? Any advice? I chose this product as it would serve a dual purpose for the chickens as well.
I wanted to order Ivermectin but don't know which to get.
There are so many choices. Any help is appreciated. I was going to call and ask their advice but didn't want to follow advice of some who may have never even seen a real goat before if that makes any sense. I figured those who have goats/chickens could steer me in the right direction.
