Mini Horses
Herd Master
Your goat is still in need of love....
Many years of mini horses did show the value of paperwork. In fact, I was a major proponent of the requirement of DNA for them. Had entire herd DNAd, etc. It brought value and legitimacy to your stock. It allowed you to confidently breed for the best & sell that to a buyer. Some of my goats are registered, some grade. I love them all.
Now I can tell you that the get from registered animals are the same, with or without papers, so far as the genetics being passed BUT, it gives you proof & value. What I am saying is that Leader has value to you for his genetics -- you just can't confidently pass that to a buyer. Sadly, you paid for the proof. Appears you had a con sales person.....hopefully, the genetics are what is stated.
It is expensive & time consuming for registration. For some homesteaders, this is greater than they want to manage for their animals. Plus, if the owners ONLY want a good animal, good milk producer, etc., they often have that in a grade animal. ( Plus you have to remember that the butcher isn't interested in papers.) I have gotten some of the most amazing animals from registered herds, no papers & I knew it, simply because they were not what the breeder felt were "up to par" for their production...or, in case of goats, didn't want the expense to just freshen a doe, if not showing or improving breed on paper.
Just sayin.... .....depends on what you need/want/do.
