@farmerjan What you typed is almost exactly what I argued to DH. Every single point. Thank you for making me feel sane. (He didn't argue back, he just went on and did it anyway, asked me to come)

I'm looking at a 1 year old teen pyr LGD for the buck pen. Intact male. His flaw is that he barks at thunder an gunshots every time and is 40 minutes from us. He's in with goats with his pack. LGD's don't sell well in our area so the breeder could not move him and his brother so instead she kept and trained them.The problem is, it's a "make an offer" situation and I know puppies go slowly for $400 and adults get given away and I'm not sure what she wants so I'm going to offer $400 and know she probably put more food than that into him.

Your answer to people that say make an offer..... "I can not make an offer as I do not put a price other people's animals. You know what they are worth to you, I can only counter with an offer if I feel it is more than I am comfortable in paying... "
You need to have an idea of what they are thinking to start with.
I refuse to make offers to people unless it is I will take them off your hands if you are giving them away.

I think I like that answer. A seller wanting you to make an offer feels like a setup for hard feelings on everyone's part. I feel like it's either a) a way to artificially inflate the price higher when the price is already high potentially by pitting buyers against each other or b) how to say you'd take anything.
Let's see what happens. If this one doesn't, I'll keep my eyes open for more chances.

At one year he is still a uppy. You can work on the barking at thunder and gunshots the way hunting people train their gundogs to ignore those sounds.

Get a capgun and cas if you can find one. If yoi can't find one record loud gunshots and thunder. When you feed him, sit with him and play the sounds or shoot off the capgun whie he is eating. By feeding him during those noises with you reassuring him he should learn that they are not threatening noises and learn to associate them with food and you petting him. Gundog people start their pups very early to ake sure that when they start training them as bird dogs that they associate gunshots with fun things. A one year old Pyr is stil a pup so .

Before taking on a Pyr I would make sure that he respets fences. Take a good lok at the owner's fencing situation.

He respects fencing and if he doesnt work for any reason she wants him back. We worked something out and we're going to see him next Saturday.
