Raising Boys? With Pictures !

Ok so I just got my two pygmy babies and love them but I did find out after catching them that they are not 2 month but 5 month so my questions are
1. How late can you safely rubberband them?
2. Do I need to seperate the boys from the girls? that I will get and the one I have she is 3. Or can they run with the girls at all times. Why is there so many questions when I already have goats I guess being a new goat mom to goats I picked rather than have dumped on me because we have land is a whole new ball game. Oh and if he is too old to rubberband anybody want a 5 month old pygmy goat? we only want one billy not two. will post pictures later tomorrow.

As long as his nuggets will fit in a bander, he's not too old...but make sure his tetanus (CDT) vaccines are up to date.

Here is the pictures of the boys the one with the more white is the one I would like to keep . However the other I have to find a home for. I tried to get better pictures but they are not to used to people yet so it is hard to get closer than this.

He is still little enough to band. I'm not sure if Pygmies ever get too big lol. I've banded calves bigger down there than a full grown Pygmy.

You should not let them run with your girls unless they are castrated or you are ok with unplanned, unexpected babies. They can breed your girls at a pretty young age, and if it happens out in the field without you seeing it, you would not know the due date, which can be really stressful. (been there, done that one, and it was awful!)

he got rubberbanded on saturday and the only girl thats in there with them is only two months old and she will be moved soon. Thanks

Good idea on moving her. I had a doeling last year that got bred by accident at 3 months.

Absolutely, it is possible at two months for boys. A good site with all this info is www.fiascofarm.com. She has great articles on almost any subject on raising goats. Your boys are cute!
