Hello. I'm new here. I live upstate NY and have a small 2 acre homestead. We have 2 dozen chickens and we have raised turkeys and started rabbits last year. We finally have our first litter. I am so excited to see success!! 12 new babies were kindled last night. They are silver fox/cinnamon/American chinchilla mix.
I'm so excited.

Anyhow I am jean and I am very happy to be here. Cannot wait to meet more rabbit chicken people.

Hey Jean! Welcome to BYH:welcome!! I raise steel Dutch rabbits, and also live in upstate NY. Wow. 12 kits is a pretty big litter. I have not bred any yet, but extpect litters of 4-6 kits. What do you use the rabbits for? Anyway, welcome and havs fun on BYH, and prepare to waste tons if time checking out all the forums!! There is a Backyard Chickens website, too. It is alot like BYH, but with alot more chicken people. Check it out.

Welcome to BYH @Jean Derby. I have not got my rabbits going yet, so I look forward to reading about your experience with the new litter! I have goats and chickens. I am trying out a new breed of chicken here in the high desert, it is called Whiting True Blue. Hoping it will do well next spring/summer. Again, congrats on the new litter and welcome to BYH.

Well....we had bartered last year chickens for rabbits...but not knowing much about breeds and etc. I have since switched my set of breeding buns 2 more times. The second set was Calis and now I have chinchillas and a silver fox doe and a chestnut NZ buck. We intend to raise our own meat. But also maybe show as my daughter and son want to.
