I bought my first 3 kids this year, bucks from a dairy operation. I am dealing with scurs on all 3. I need to know if it is too late to try reburning their horns. I didn't know this was even an option. They are around 13/14 weeks now. They were disbudded March 17. The oldest has a partial horn, and a skinny sheet of horn, the other 2 boys have little 1/2 inch bumps now.
They were born last week of February - first week of March. Being in an area with almost no goat people, I turned to the local vet for disbudding. The vet is young/new, but grew up with sheep. He seems very knowledgeable, and the buds looked well burned. I did my research ahead of time so I could hopefully avoid mishaps. I tried to get him to burn figure 8s, but he assured me it wasn't necessary. Anyway, I'm not cross with him. I'd love it if he would re do it free, but I doubt it, and I can't really afford another $100.
Thanks!
Heidi

They can be burned and cut but you would probably need to get vet to do it
I know I couldn't or wouldn't try

Not unusual. Great vets still get scurs as well as many very experienced breeders.
The one will need to be de-horned at this point and you wil have several weeks of bandaging. Flystrike is an issue this time of year.
The one with smaller nubs may look small but you are looking at the base which if these are bucklings they will be large, more than likely even if a double burn is attempted it will regrow scurs. I'd wait til fall and dehorn both.
If they stay somewhat "short" but thick and start growing funky you can use a gigli wire to remove the section that causes issues. For example- if it curves and is growing into the face etc.

I have several threads with pictures of what I am talking about... first link I have pics of a buck with very bad scurs, one was growing into the face.
2nd thread is a doe we had to dehorn

Whenever you have a goat disbudded check frequently as if there is any growth you want to get them back in right away, never wait til they are now becoming horns again.

Learning curves... we all learn as we go. :)

When I had a lamb disbudded and they started growing again, the vet redid it at no charge. Your vet might do the same or at least charge a lesser amount for a re-do. I think the one longer one might need dehorned rather than just reburned though.

We had one 4 months old and they weren't scurs they were horns
The vet sedated goat, burned, cut , and burned again and we had no problems
I've got one just like that now, maybe worse
We were like 15 and 2 this year disbudding
Already had one re-done that was almost like yours about the same age when we had vet do 2nd time
The one we have now is about 12 weeks

I have one that has scurs, I tried banding... It didnt really work. I mean, the scur fell off, but it seems to be that the scur is still growing back... So idk if I didnt do it right or what, but it didnt work for me.
