Does anyone here have experience getting their purebred rabbits registered? My English angora came with papers from the breeder. Do you get to pick a weird registered name for it, like with dogs?

I'm hoping to be able to show her someday, but I'm assuming she'd need to be registered. Anyone know if that's the case?

I have registered many of my rabbits, you can pick whatever name you what to, like for my Creme doe I picked 'Heartland's Serena'

And no, to be shown she does not have to be registered.

Do know that you shouldn't change the prefix if your rabbit came with one. If her pedigree says something like "Heartland's ________", do not change the Heartland's. You can give your rabbit a name, but the prefix of her breeder needs to stay in front of it.

But yes, you can give her any name you like as long as it falls within ARBA's rules (there's a length limit, no profanity). You need a complete three generation pedigree-every animal needs a name, a tattoo number, and a weight. Your rabbit must be senior age. To be registered your rabbit has to be examined by an ARBA licensed registrar and you'll have to pay a $6 application fee. And of course you need to be an ARBA member.

You do not need to be an ARBA member or have a registered rabbit to show, though.

For the English, the rabbit also needs to be in show coat or at least the minimum length required to show per our standard. A cut down EA cannot be registered as it would be a DQ on the show table. you need at least 2" of coat, preference to 3 1/2" - 5" as it would show the quality of the wool, density, and color.

Oh, one other thing. You can show her without papers, but if you want to get her CH status she has to be papered. You can't get her a champ cert without that.
