so im going with rex for my breeding plans, small scale, will be hopefully covering the pet, meat and fur side of things, with meat and fur primarily for myself.
id potentially like to get into showing eventually too...

anywho...
something ive noticed is rex are hard to find here...

not minis...mini rex of all forms from true minis to oversized/out of standard are everywhere...
but true rex (standads) seem to be increidbly hard t find.

so does anyone here breed these beautiful and lovely rabbits?
im going to be looking for a couple of bucks soon, preferably solid or heavily marked/booted broken blues or opals...
im willing to travel up to 3 hours in any direction of zip 38334...

and would also love to talk rex in general, i LOVE this breed!

The same is true here in Texas! I just got a breeding pair of Chocolate Std. Rex from a gal in WI. We had to arrange a "railroad" that started in WI, went to IA, NE, MO, OK, and TX, dropping off rabbits all along the way. Check with the National Rex Rabbit Club. They might be able to help you.

least im not the only one lol.
it realiy suprises me that they are so hard to find though, they are amazing rabbits, a great size for kids, make great house/pet bunnies with awesome personalities and are AMAZING mommas too, I'd think theyd be more common.

why do you? as a rex breeder...think there not more popular overall?

I love the standard rex. Been looking for them everywhere. I have one blue otter rex doe that is as big as my NZW. She is huge and she is sweet and oh so wonderful! I love her dearly. I also have a black otter rex buck who is smaller than she is and for the longest time, I couldn't get him to breed her or any other doe. But just the other day it happened. I am so excited and can't wait to get some rex babies from her. She has had a litter already but they wear mixed with NZ and so of course they didn't have the rex fur but I wanted to get her first litter out of the way.

I have no clue why they aren't more popular. I LOVE them.

It could be that as a meat rabbit, they are a little slower to grow out. but really if meat isn't your only reason to raise them, it may not matter.

My main reasons for raising them is because they make me happy. I will be raising for meat anyway so I might as well raise what makes me happy! I also raise satins for the same reason as well as NZ. The NZs kind of help me justify my love for the other two breeds.

I will also be raising Champagnes but I am still working on getting a doe for that line. I sure do like a variety but Rexes are by far my favorite.

Oh, what I wouldn't do for a tri colored standard rex!

well i managed to find a breeder 2 1/2 hours away, they breed for show mosty but arnt opposed to meat/fur and have some of the top blacks in the area...
broguth home a young broken black Doe with show potential, a stunning black otter jr buck (he was keeping the broken and the otter back to show but decided he had enough otter bucks he could let this one go lol) and a nice black doe. the black doe is long in the body but nice in the hip and Stunning coat...
im still on the look out for a blue or opal buck to go with my broken opal doe but i can breed the otter buck to all 4 girls with no issues...
I still cant belive how hard they are to find!
