Congratulations on being able to buy some nice sheep to add to your flock. And that working equipment is outstanding! Y’all are going to LOVE it! It will make working your sheep so much easier and faster. The old Chase and tackle is a thing of the past!

The Dorper club may be getting off track, pandering to the select few with huge flocks. That pretty much leaves out the small breeder, which is likely the majority of breeders.

Yes, and it will hold resale value with so many people going into goats and sheep too. Something I look at when making a large purchase in my "Prime". LOL

Yes, the only breeders from the western states that showed at Duncan this year were Travis Blackburn (Axtell) and Antonia Juarez (Hijo). Travis said he wanted to go back because they had a South African judge this year. He also was delivering my sheep and a couple rams to other buyers. The other big breeders did not go. The Western States Dorper show is in May and they will have a really good show there. They also usually have 2 South African judges, and do several seminars. I can't go this year :hitbecause DH is playing golf with his frat bros in their annual tournament. (Translation: These older gents ride around in golf carts having a great time remembering their wild youth then go to lunch!) Next year we will probably go when we go to California for a visit.

The Flamings delivered the sweep and chute to the house Saturday evening before we got home. We spent Saturday night with the sheep in the trailer at the motel since it was 3 pm by the time we were loaded. Anyway, we had a good time and came home Sunday morning with our Sydell equipment and sheep. One of the cool items I bought was a 5' panel that sides to make a wider panel. Perfect for those spaces where you can't get a perfect fit with the temp panels. DS1 and I had put eye bolts in the sides of the gooseneck (it already had 1/4" air holes in the aluminum sides and I tied up the expandable panel to make an extra pen for the ram. Worked like a charm. Got home, unloaded everything, and put the sheep in isolation pens for a week.

DH had gotten a call from DD1 while we were in OK. She, DSIL1, and DGS1 were flying to Huntsville AL on Tuesday evening to check out University of Alabama Huntsville. It specializes in aerospace, science, and technology which is David's chosen field. DH decided we would make the 9 hour drive to meet them and do the tour with them. I did laundry, unpacked and repacked, and made lunches. We were back on the road at 7 am on Tuesday. I slept a lot of the way. Checked into our motel and the next am met up with the family. Beautiful town, beautiful University, perfect place for David. It helps that he has a 4 year schlarship to go there too. The family decided to eat in the cafeteria and try the food. Lots of choices and wonderful food. Only problem is that it is is far from his mother. (Problem for her that is.) Housing is great too. The University is surrounded by tech companies, Boeing, Rocketdyne, Northrup, and many more surrund the university. It is the site of 4 years of Space Camp, Blue Origins has a presence there and MUSK'S SPACE X is locating there this year! Lots of other tech companies as well that I did not recognize but David and his dad kept naming as we drove around town. DSIL1 works for Northrup and is familiar with Huntsville having flown in to work on different projects there over the years.PXL_20250415_150052631.MP.jpgPXL_20250415_150151418.MP (1).jpg

The family came back with us to our motel and we sent the evening in the lobby playing cards at the breakfast tables and drinking free coffee. They left around 9 pm since they had to be at the airport at 4 am to fly back.

The next morning DH announced that we would drive to Nashville since he always wanted to see the home of the Grand Ole Opry. More on that later . . . .

That night we were awakened by a text from DS2 at 1:20 am. Middle of the night texts always scare me but this is what we saw -
-6037621674328991747.jpg1352743536253387075.jpg Baby Alexander arrived at 10 minutes to midnight on April 14! 7 lb.5 ou., 21", baby and mama safe and sound. After that the text notifications were going off on the family chat line for another hour!

Next installment - trip to Nashville . . . .

Aside from the fact that Rbert has black hair and dark brown eyes, he loks like DS2. LOL Same features and expressions. The other 2 boys have rounder faces.

So on the way to Nashville to look around I checked the Grand Ole Opry website and they were having a performance that evening. I tried to get tickets on my phone but the app kept trying to send the text to our old land line. o_O I finally was able to call and get tickets for the performance and also booked the special parking with a golf cart to ferry us from the parking lot to the Opry entrance. DH ws ecstatic. Both of us remember watching the Opry on TV and I particularly remember Minnie Pearl who wore a straw hat with flowers and the price tag hanging off it. My grandmother loved Minnie Pearl. It is funny what you remember from childhood.
We got to Nashville around noon and drove around a bit. Then DH decided we should find out where the Opry was so we would not miss the performance. There is a huge shopping center across from the Opry and lots of restaurants. One was "The Aquarium" which had walls of glass behind which were giant fish swimming around the dining area. We thought about coming back for dinner but the reviews said the food was good but pricey because yoi were paying for the atmosphere. We decided to have lunch which would be less expensive. We had a lot of fun using our phones to take pix of the fish and identify them while we ate.

PXL_20250416_180214936.MP.jpg There were a lot more fish - moray eels, a small shark, and different varieties of rays. Lots of fun. Then we went over to the Opry store and shopped. DH wanted a T-shirt and luckily I was abe t finsd the ONLY 4XL one they had. Even more luckily it was one he liked. He insisted I get one too. Then we went to our motel and checked in, took showers and naps before heading back to the Opry. We were still early so we went to Cabella's where DH tried out all the pontoon boats. We sent pix to the kids and DS1 texted on the family chat that we were spending the rest of their inheritance. LOL Then we drove back to the Opry parking lot and were picked up by the shuttle.
PXL_20250416_223107254.NIGHT.jpg It was a great show! We loved it and DH was thrilled. The people next to him were from Boston and the family in front of us were from Norway. He talked to all of them and had a blast. Ricky Skaggs opened the 2 hour show. Several performers did songs and there was a comedian that was hysterical. There was a guy there that plays different instruments and had done music on albums with all the greats. He did 3 numbers on the harmonica. I never knew that the harmonica could play such good music. Then he played Orange Blossom Special using TWO HARMONICAS! Incredible. Shenandoah finished out the show. We want to go back again. It is only 2 hours from Huntsville so if DGS1 goes to college there we can go to Nashville and visit him at college.

BTW DS1 and DH assured Davd ad his parents that they would go on Spring Break with him to keep him out of trouble.
