I think its finally happening! Sophie, my pygmy doe, might be getting ready to deliver!!

Yesterday her ligaments were hard like pencils, and today....they are rubbery and seem to have some give to them! They arent mushy, or even soft like rubberbands, but they definatley are softer and more pliable then yesterday!!

Her udder is a bit bigger too- about the size of a softball. Her udder is hairy so its hard to see how big it really is, but her teats dont seem too much bigger. She is supposedly not a FF, but a friend looked at her rear and said it looks pretty 'tight' like she hadnt kidded before (possibly).

Her appetite is HUGE-she's eating almost a flake of high quality hay every day AND getting 2 to 3 cups of goat chow a day! On January 18th, the vet ultrasounded her, said she was more than 90 days along for sure, but only saw 1 spine.

Now, I know its possible for ligs to come and go, buuuuuut, if in this case, they DONT come and go,

Any predictions for when she might actually kid?

Thanks!

Ligaments start to loosen a month or more before kidding. It still could be a while, especially if her udder is still small and her vulva hasn't gotten loose.

I have better luck udder watching that through feeling ligaments. The day before kidding, her udder will fill. Before kidding, it will be full, shiny, and will be strutted (teats will appear to point more to the left and right than hang straight down).

Thanks! I was so excited to see ANY sign, I guess I just didnt want to think about anything else.

I have noticed, her vulva keeps, kinda, pooching open and it looks reddish on the inside. The first time I saw that (about 3 days ago) I thought she was bleeding, but I was definatley wrong, it was just the color, not real blood.

I will have to take a better look at her udder and teats, or at least keep a better eye on them as signs of kidding, instead of just depending on the ligs.

I'm a 6 time mama to humans, but a first timer with goat kidding. Jeez I hope everything goes well! :fl

CANT wait to start my own kidding thread!! :woot

This is my first year with kidding does as well but my mini-nubian doe (nigerian / nubian cross) is due on March 1st (150 days) and I keep checking her since today is day 145 and she is pretty big and I noticed for the last few days her vulva is bright pink (almost looks like she is bleeding too but isn't) and looser, but I think the vulva really loosens and stretches when they get really close, but each goat will be different so no ones for sure but your goat!

My goat was bred Oct. 2nd and 3rd for sure, hope this helps and good luck with your doe and freshening!
