This evening I left to go to church. Then had to run into town for a few things and when I pulled into the drive my heart just about stopped. Two hound dogs had all my goats running around the barn. Running into the barn walls and just complete chaos! I floored it up the drive way and jumped out of the truck and ran for the gate. I didnt know how long they had been bothered. I finally made it to the field which felt like an eternity getting there. And was able to catch the dogs. Luckly no one was hurt just scared to death. Then i noticed i had an extra goat. My uncles pygmy was in the field. His dogs had ran the little guy into my fence and some how got in. We walked the fence and found 2 possible places they may have gotten in. The only way that i can see the little goat getting in was he is still small enough to go through my fences. Im so proud of my older goats. They put all of my babies behind them and tried their best to protect them. The only funny thing is one of my wether's once he saw me got brave and he attacked the smaller dog. He stomped him and head butted him. Im so glad no one got hurt and things are now calm and quiet. Whew. May have to look into a LGD.

Oh goodness -- so glad you got home when you did! Were they dogs you knew? Did you have them picked up?

They live next door. They belong to my uncle. Yes i called him and he came over and picked them up. And his litte pygmy too. I think the only reason they didnt hurt them was because they were both pups and havent killed anything hunting yet. Still glad i got home when i did too. They could have figured it out.

Really glad it all ended well. It is hard when it is a family member's dogs but hopefully it won't happen again. An LGD is a good idea but it can be hard when the threatening dogs share a fence line. They may be at each other constantly.

There is a road between us. It was just a freak accident. He usually has them in a 5 acre pen to run in. But he was trying to teach one to tie out and she slipped her collar. And the other pup was running loose in his fenced yard. So 2 dogs get together and trouble happens. Thank heavens no goats were harmed. Or the evening could have been so much more terrible. He has already sold one of his dogs because he kept deviling the goats. And i dont want any trouble with our uncle either.

Strong fences make for good neighbors... even more so if the neighbor is related (hence you can't really say/do anything). So glad no real harm done. A good scare is good for you though as it will motivate you to go reinforce that fence line!
