Just went to feed my pygmy goats and saw one of them lost the scur horn. Doesn't look broken, almost looks like he pulled it off. What do I do with the part that is left. No blood, just a nub still sticking up. Thanks for the help in advance. Also it doesn't seem to bother him. He's eating, walking around just fine. He's a year old pygmy.

Like Rascal said. Check the site for any sharp edges that he could potentially hurt another animal with as well as if there's any part that looks like it catch on fencing. And obviously, trim or sand it down if there is. Also watch for a few days as he might scratch and itch and could break open the site, causing bleeding. and you know head wounds can bleed like crazy!

Thanks you for easing my mind about the scur coming off. What will happen to that little nub that is sticking up? It's about and inch or inch and a half long. Will it just harden and become another scur? I do feel better knowing this happens. lol

I kinda look at scurs like baby teeth. Nobody likes to see their child with a bloody mouth, but when you're the child, it's really kind of a relief to FINALLY get that wiggly, annoying thing outta there.

:)

My experience has been that if there's a little bony protrusion underneath a scur when the scur breaks off, the bony thing pretty much just dries up and that's that. I've never seen one that continues to grow. Now *a scur* will continue to grow, but a scur -- what I'd consider to be a true scur -- is wiggly and attaches to the skin around the bony thing.. The bony thing itself is like SKULL. It doesn't move and, like I said, in my experience it won't really grow, either. Should just dry up. Now, you may have a new scur begin growing around the bony thing, but eventually that one will get knocked loose, too.

I sure hope that makes sense.. Bottom line, you're OK. Nothing to worry about. :)

My pygora doe grows and knocks of scurs continually, every couple of months it seems. Doesn't bother her in the least.

Thanks all for putting my mind at ease. Never had a goat with scurs before. Bad dehorning job. Just was kind of shocked to go into barn and see that cute little lop sided head. lol
