@Baymule did the vet have an opinion on whether it was a dog bite?

No, she played it safe with I don’t know. Probably the smartest thing to do.

Sentry swallowed his bread bacon grease treats this morning. He’s been outside in the front yard several times while I was busy outside. I brought him in when I came in and he’s been snoozing in the crate.

Several years running a boarding kennel & needing to make sure that lots of different dogs got their meds, I eventually came up with this never-fail method.
2 treats. 1 contains the pill, 1 just a treat. Let them see that you have 2. Tease them just a tiny bit - "mmmm look at this, looks good huh, you want this? do you? can you sit? " Holding a treat clearly visible in each hand, offer the pill treat & immediately offer the other one. Almost every dog I ever did this with would swallow the first one so fast in order to get the 2nd one. The 2nd one leaves no bad taste so they never get suspicious of the little game.

That tear doesn't look like a bite wound. Looks like a puncture and tear from a stationary piece of metal or somethiing The depth of that injury there should have been a matching fang mark/tear within 3-4" of that wound. Looks time like more of a unctire and ter from metal or something. Nasty but apparently not deep enough to need a drain which is good.

Get well sn Sentry - and get out of the house so poor Carson can have his space back!

It looks like when Misty gouged herself open on corner of cattle panel gate. Just bigger probably from ramming at speed.

Sentry is ready to go back to work, but he will have to wait a few more days before I let him go to the pen I have the young ewes in. Takes time to heal!

Sentry was ill once again with a mysterious illness that the vets have never been able to identify. He died Monday November 11, 2024.

I have fought for him, beginning with hip dysplasia surgery when he was only 9 months old. He nearly died 2 years ago from sickness that the vets couldn’t figure out what was killing him. He pulled through and recovered. He had another episode of it a year ago and the vets suggested it could be some kind of autoimmune disease. Whatever it is, this time he didn’t make it.

He has been such a good dog, in a body that didn’t work for him. He had such heart, loved me fiercely, adored my granddaughters and loved his work. I’m grieving but grateful that he came into my life.

You did a really good job with him Baymule. You went above and beyond in regards to being in his corner, spending the extra $, doing the extra work, and on kindness and understanding. He was lucky to have you. I'm sorry you lost him this week. He came to your place and got to live his best life for as long as he could. He even got to work and have a place in a working pack when nature wasn't going to grant him that.
