Going to the NCDGBA Spring Fling Memorial Day Weekend in Rocky Mt, NC and started clipping yesterday. My wife is basically taking this whole next week off as well. She is also the Superintendent for the milk test so, she has to be there Thursday for the milk out.

Will be going to the PDGBA show two weeks after that in Shelby, NC

OK so here is Clara Belle before:

Hazel is a dry yearling:

Big Brown is a 9 month old buckling

Taff is a first freshner. She did win a GC as a junior.

Taffy is dam raising a single doeling. We are milking her twice a day while she is dam raising and getting two cups. Seperated to see what she would look like with a 12 hour fill. Will shave her udder better this week :) We did get over a half a quart on the 12 hour fill. So, she is inline with a good first freshner which in our herd is about a quart and a quarter per day.

Coleus is dam raising quads. Seperated her as well to see a 12 hour fill.

We got 3/4 of a quart on the 12 hour fill. We were a little disappointed, were thinking about doing the milk test. But, if we didn't get a full quart on 12 hours probably not going to happen. I think she is a 2 quart a day girl, but because she's dam raising 4 kids she wouldn't let it all down. Plus, she kidded less than 8 weeks ago, so she isn't at peak lactation. I think if the kids were weaned we would get 2 quarts per day from her.

We will continue working this week and I will post some pics.

Hazel's colors are darker which makes her flashier I think.

Taffy is the better of the two animals. They are the same age, but Taffy is in milk and Hazel is bred but dry.

We got Daisy clipped, but I haven't got a chance to get a picture yet. She's an intermediate kid, and she has the same darker colors.

My wife is clipping the big bucks tomorrow. I'm glad I'm working, that's a job.

Wow... how many more do you have to clip? What blade # do you use?

I know you're getting excited! :D
We're done with the main clipping. I have a few more pics to post. Use a number 10 blade. Maurine worked all day on Rocky and Caspian.

The need some more work. Still have to shave the udders. And Coleus is black and she get's a two stage clipping cause it's hard to make a black one look good.

#10 blade

Ok.
Next three does kidded in the fall, so they are very late in lactation 6 or 7 months. We are members of the NCDGBA so we want to support the show, and you have to have a certian number in milk for the show to be official. We will start drying them off at the show. So, we will basically skip a milking and let them fill for 20 hours at the show, and start drying them off.

First is Zamia. She won a GC this fall. I think we will find out soon if she or Coleus is our best. There is an ongoing debate in our house at this point:

Cookie is a first freshner and took the blue ribbon in her age group in youth show at NC State fair in Oct 2012 and was GC Jr in 2011:

Cocoa is a first freshner. We didn't show her in the youth show at fair, and then she beat Cookie in the open show finishing second out of 17 animals:

Ok
Coleus is going to be our main competitor in Sr. Doe. She is black and it is tricky to clip them. Hard to get even and they look streaky when you first clip them. In this Pic Maurine cut her close with a #10 on Sat. on her neck and legs only. She was the first one we did. She didn't cut the rest of her body tight, went in the direction of her hair. Will let her hair grow this week and probably clip her twice before the show on Sat.

She had quads, and we have been feeding the you not what out of her to keep her condition up.
