We are in Central Calfornia, in the foothills east of Fresno. My son shows pigs at 2 fairs each year, Fresno and Chowchilla...well, he has shown at Fresno for 4 years, and he just started showing at Chowchilla this year. What fun! Love fairs! OH OH OH, he had a good looking girl for Chowchilla! Max weight for market hog at the fair is 280. Pig weighed in on 5/11 in the evening at 285. Weigh day was 5/13 early afternoon. We weren't worried...it's an hour and a half drive to the fair...We drove down 5/12 around 10am to beat the heat. She was fed and watered 5/12 in the morning...then a drink when we got to the fair, then nothing till after weigh in. She was ONE pound over-weight...ONE pound :( :( :(. Talk about disappointing. Pigs will typically lose 3% on the trip...not Pig! For reals...we should just keep her and breed her...she was easy to put weight on...and she HELD ON TO IT no matter what.

Oh! How nice not to have a max! We struggle with it every fair, but this is the first time we were not able to get the hog down. Sooo disappointing! She is a gorgeous pig and put together well :(. She would have done well in market...ugh. But yeah... The boy does 2 fairs a year, so the next pig will get here in July :)
