NachoFarm - The first thing you've already noticed...everyone does things differently. There's not really a right or a wrong way as long as you're doing what you feel is best and you're not breaking the law. You have to do what's right / best for your farm, your herd and you.
Have a look at the Goat Feeding Discussion link in my signature below to see just how broad the range is of what our members feed their goats.
Our farm has recently stopped feeding grain altogether. We do hay, browse, minerals, water and alfalfa (hay compressed) pellets.
If you read the Parasite Management link in my signature below you may get some ideas on how to go about the role of managing those parasites naturally. At the bottom of the article is a link to the thread discussion...in it there is a discussion about plants that can be used to prevent worms. My farm is doing a trial this year using a natural concoction of my own devise as a deworming prevention.
On coccidia...it could very well be your issue with this goat if it is more than 3 weeks old. Medicated grain is just a prevention tool and will not treat. You need to treat the kid if it has coccidia (get a fecal done). Here is some information for you on treating that: http://www.backyardherds.com/web/viewblog.php?id=2607-coccidia-goat There has been some discussion on whether or not Apple Cider Vinegar or even Pickle Juice can be used to treat coccidia...maybe...maybe not. What I would do if I were in your shoes is get a fecal done and if it comes back coccidia treat chemically one round and then use a natural method to try to prevent. Your goat can go from doing ok to being dead very very quickly with coccidia and it's nothing to experiment with when you have an active case.
