Dexters are small cows that are a mixed meat/milk producer. They are supposed to need only a half acre of good pasture a year. If the goats don't work out, or after they have grazed down some of the more difficult to get rid of brush/etc. Dexters are also cattle that eat a lot less high quality pasture, supposedly. Just a thought.

Thank you for all the information. I have been researching Dexters for a while and thought they might be a good choice for us. Will keep everyone updated on our progress with this.

I have a small acerage, supplememnt a lot with hay and raise dexters for meat and milk (well, one milk cow anyway!). You CAN do it, it just takes good management. And yes, you will need to find a place for manure, but you would also if you had 10 acres. good luck!
