Snake bite!

Copperheads are around. I noticed his neck was wet yesterday but finally checked him after church and it was swollen. I removed his collar and gave 2 tsp children's Benedryl. Is that ok?

yes you did the right thing. you can give more Benadryl every 4-6 hours for the next 24 hours if he needs it. he should be fine, just keep an eye on the bite site to make sure that no infection develops

I hate to even mention this, but are you sure it's a snake bite and not an abscess? Hopefully, you're right and it IS a snakebite - weird thing to wish for, huh?

He is a cutie - hope he gets better for you!

When copperheads bite things too big to eat, which is rare, it is almost always a "dry bite" (no venom). Just watch out for infection. Give him some LA-200 if you think it may be an issue. FEM has a point, it may not be a snake bite.
