Well my Ghiselle (my FF) gave birth Friday to two beautiful baby girls, but she got severe mastitis within 12 hours after her kidding. I'm treating her aggressively with a full 5 day round of penicillin and it's almost completely 100% gone now.

It was the WEIRDEST thing ever. (I milked her out right after she had them, and again every 6 hours). Within 6 hours of having the babies a long skinny "lump" developed in her left udder and over the next 6 hours it grew and grew until I can only describe it as a "snake" in her udder, about as big around as my pointer finger. In the mammary tissue right above the nipple. WEIRD. Then within another 6 hours the whole bottom of her left udder was ROCK hard and the nipple was becoming hard too, making it nearly impossible to milk her. As soon as I noticed the hardening she got her first dose of pen-g. Within 6 hours the whole thing had softened up and every 6 hours it just kept getting better. Within two days of the treatment the snake is almost completely gone. :)

I just wanted to share that story as it was SO bizarre! :ep It's been totally unlike any other mastitis I have treated. :idunno

Also, I wanted to show her udder. I think it's a very nice udder for a FF. :D What do you guys think?

Before (kids):

After: (and after the "snake" had gone away)...

Thanks!

Do you think it was mastitis or CAE?

DonnaBelle

She has been tested 3 times in the last year and half for CAE and CL and all has been negative. She and all my other goats have come from a CAE/CL negative herd and have had no other contact with ANY goats.

I am fairly confident it was mastitis.

Pretty udder. I would be happy with an udder like that on a FF.

Well, thank goodness it's not CAE!!

I'd give her a shot of B-12 along with some Vitamin C crushed up on her food.

I'd also massage her some too.

She's a lovely goat with a fantastic udder.

Thanks guys! I thought it was pretty. :love

I have been massaging her udder too. Only a tiny bit of a lump left, almost completely gone now. :)

Is she a Kastdemur's doe too? Or is it only the bucks that you used for breeding?

I had two togg/nubian doelings last year that were from a Kastdemur's buck. There dam is an awesome milker and now I am regretting selling them. I bet they will milk to beat all and probably taste better than my Togg. Luckily I know where one is living a will probably volunteer my Alpine buck to her next year so maybe I can get a doeling back from her.

How about a front shot showing the front udder attachment? I have a good milker that is easy to milk and taste good but my friend kindly pointed out that I could park a car in her front udder attachment :/ She was my first goat so clueless. Now I know better.

LoL! Park a car... :gig My first American Nubian was like that. I sold her as I have too many nice ones around. :p

She isn't a Kastdemur, but yes the sire is a Kasdemure son.

I will get front udder shots asap.
