One of our young goats passed away last week so yesterday we went and picked up a friend for his sister. The new one is a 9 week old Nigerian dwarf. Up untill yesterday she was kept with her mom. Now that we have her here she is constantly screaming and is so loud. I understand this is normal behavior as last year we got an 8 week old doe who was dam raised and did the same thing. The problem is we live in a village and are the only ones with goats in the village. We are allowed to have them as long as nobody complains. Our other goats will scream occasionally but they're normally pretty good. This new one constantly screams. I get that she's missing her mom but I need her to be a little quieter. It's fine when I'm out with her but I'm trying to get her used to not having me constantly around. This is because I'm going away at the end of the week for a week and she, and the other goats, will be cared for by the rest of my family. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to help her adapt quickly and easily?

Not much I can tell you other than wait it out.

I really dislike it when breeders will sell kids that have been on their dam and not weaned. Makes it harder on the animal and new owner :( Especially when selling "pets".

Yes, I agree and the stress bloom of cocci or parasites ( shouldn't have parasites that young but it happens) will explode! Too much all at once and so unfair to the kid goat.

I would maybe let the neighbors know that the kid was just weaned and in a new home and it may be a little loud for a few days. A heads up is always courteous and can make the situation easier for all.

I know it is odd....but when we first got our goats, they were much happier when we made them a scarecrow... so they thought a person was with them.
