Okay, here's an idea of how we're thinking about organizing things (this is still a rough draft)

Sub-Forums for each animal section:
Caring for young
Feeding
Diseases
Behaviors & Handling Techniques
Breeds
Everything Else

Possible sub-forums for a "General" category (applies to all/most animals):
Fencing, Housing, Manure Management (should these be split up?)
Processing the animals for meat
Milking
Fibers (are there other terms for this)?
Recipes
Injuries and Cures
Predators & Pests
Equipment & Supplies
Showing Your Herd

I would go with it the way you have suggested for now. We can always adjust according to the forum growth; much like was done on BYC.

Easier to keep it simple at the beginning.

(This sounds about right.)

Possible sub-forums for a "General" category (applies to all/most animals):

Fencing, Housing, Manure Management (should these be split up?) No

Processing the animals for meat

Milking

Fibers (are there other terms for this)? (Fleece, fur, Cashmere)

(Forgotten something: Draft and pack. Animals aren't just used for food, you know.)

Recipes (Yipee! :weee )
Injuries and Cures (Already have this one)
Predators & Pests (I'd make this one the norm for each subforum. Each animal has it's own predation problems.)
Equipment & Supplies (Equipment and supplies can be in everything else for now, I'd say.)
Showing Your Herd(Good idea!)
Edit:

I'd merge injuries, cures and diseases.

Milking, meat, fiber and draft should be only used if they are major uses for the animal.

Draft Animals - that's a good point. Horses, Mules, Donkeys, Llamas, and even some Goats fit into that category - I don't know about Sheep. It's a General category.

Most animals have a wide variety of uses. I'm sure you COULD train a sheep to pull a cart, but whether they're the best for it, I'm not sure. It's sort of like trying to milk a yak. You can do it, but why? :D
