Breeding sheep that will lamb out of season gives you a much better opportunity to have lambs available for sale when the market is high. Also you can arrange your lambing for when yo wnat it to avoid high parasite times etc.

We have been doing that for 7 years. This year was like everyone else because my shoulder kept me out of the picture.

We got Oshi moved out and the new to us ram home and settled in. I'll have to get a picture or two to post later on but the wind is gusting and the high temp so far has been 29 degrees so I was ready to get back to the house. This ram is red and easy to handle. He had been a show lamb so he is about as mellow as they get.

We are at the time where lambs are due and it reminds me why we breed in the summer. Our lows for the next few days are going to be in the 20's but that explains mostly why Katahdin's are so popular. We have lambed in the field in the past when the temp has gotten down to 10 degrees and all of the lambs were fine. I will be really surprised if we don't have lambs in the field in the morning.

Advantages of lambing in fall/winter. No worms! Lambs have some time to grow, gain strength and have a little resistance to the worms. Born in the spring-it’s a worm party!

Well, with dairy goats there's less choice -- seasonal breeders. My meat breed, yr round. 😵‍💫

But the cold temps here, they're doing well -- handling better than me! No field kids so far this time, all have gone into shelters for their event. I've had many field deliveries when Mar-May babes. They seem to know what's best.
