Loving the herd life
Hi all!
Its getting to be kidding time again!! I have two does this year that I bred, one is DEFINITELY prego, the other I'm not so sure about.
Here are my girls (they normally have shiny coats but unfortunately they are shedding their weird white fuzzy undercoats right now).
This is Black Market Sassafras (Sassy). She was bred October 30 and is due sometime around March 29. She is turned one year old on Feb 1st, 2013, so this is her first freshening. As you all know, pictures just don't capture how fat they are. Sassy is the doe that I am positive is pregnant. He skin is pulled so tightly around her tummy, her ligaments are mushy , and her babies are so active- I can feel them kicking around
And this is Sassy's mom, Withrow's Razzmatazz (Razz). Razz is four and this will be her fourth freshening IF she's pregnant. I don't know if she's pregnant, though. We saw her be bred by the buck, but she's always had a really quiet heat so its hard to tell when she's in heat. About 8 days after we bred her, I thought she was acting like she was back in heat (but like I said, it's hard to tell with her), but the people we bring our does to, to be serviced by their bucks, were out of town. I figured I would just rebreed her later. This year it wasn't going to be a big deal to have both of our does bred, so we didn't worry about blood testing for pregnancy. Razz has not seemed to go back into heat, that we have noticed, but she's not showing other signs of being pregnant. She's got a little bit of a belly, but her vulva doesn't look like a pregnant goat's to me. I haven't felt much movement in there, and I can't tell if she's bagging up because she's not completely dry from last spring, yet. Maybe she's hiding a single in there and she's just good at covering it up since it's her fourth time freshening? Though, last year she didn't appear very pregnant and her due date was unknown so she surprised me with twins weeks before I was guessing she was due. Well I just hope she's prego and if she is then she'll be due on March 23th.
