I had a mini-jack that was pure evil. I don't doubt he could have taken on a dog/coyote, but he chose to attack my goats instead. He picked up my permanent grand champion pygmy doe and tossed her about 12 feet then tried to stomp her to death.

He was castrated the next day and given away within a week.

But, I've known other mini's that were totally sweet and loveable.

I was wondering when that was going to come up. I don't have a mini donkey, but I have a mini mule. When she first came here, she spent the first week terrorizing the goats. One of them tried to run through the pond to escape her - twice! Unfortunately for the goat, the bottom of the pond was pretty muddy; I had to fish her out when she got stuck. But once they accepted the "rule of mule," she lightened up on them, and only got after them when they got between her and something edible. It's kind of funny, actually - the goats don't mind the miniature horses at all, and they outrank the mule in the equine herd dynamics, but the goats respect the mule, even though the horses don't! I've seen the mule try to stomp ducks, too, though I don't think she has ever actually caught one. That long-eared critter and I are totally bonded; if I had to get rid of everything but one, she'd be the one,

An intact Jack can cause problems when other livestock females come in heat. That's why it is a bad idea to keep a Jack.

Yes, but I'm getting a gelding! They don't cause AS many problems . . . right??

Geldings are sweet, gentle and controllable. Any intact male animal thinks sex, food, sex, water, sex, sex....... they are on earth to propagate their kind. Can't blame them for doing what they do.
