Hi folks. I'm not gonna post pics as I don't have permission to but she is a beautiful doe from an excellent herd up here in Ny. They are selling her because she only produces 6lbs of milk a day versus the 8lbs a day they want out of a goat. She is a registered Lamancha. They are asking $250 for her. I feel this is a great price. 6lbs is still alot isn't it?

Is she registered? I don't know about New York, but in Alabama that would be a good price. As for milk production, if that's all you need, then you're set. Is this her first time milking? She may produce more next time around.

A gallon of milk is between 8-9 lbs depending on density and fat. Average 8 1/2 lbs.

So, she's giving about 3/4 of a gallon.

I guess I can understand their perspective in culling her, but she could be a great goat for you depending on your goals. :thumbsup

That sounds like a fair price if she is registered. Six lbs. a day is not too shabby. She may increase her production depending on what she is fed (quality vs. quantity), her stress level, her age, disease status (if she got sick during lactation i.e. wormy or respiratory illnesses). All these factor into a dairy animal's productivity. You get out of them what you put into them. So for the dairy to say she only produces 6 lbs. a day could be a management problem at the dairy where she has the potential to produce 8 lbs. a day but because of stress of some sort she can't live up to her potential or it could just be genetically, she can only produce 6 lbs. either way, here in Tennessee , this would be a fair price for a proven, and registered milking goat.
:clap

Ok great. She is registered yes. She is 3 years old so I don't think the milk production will really go up at this point UNLESS she is in a calmer environment and that helps. For my goals I am trying to start the mini herds. I currently have mini-alpine but I want to branch out into mini-everything. She seemed like a good buy and a decent doe to be a foundation with. Thought?

I would buy her as well. I think she is reasonably priced, and registered!

Awesome! Thanks guys. I was looking very favorably to purchasing her but wanted some more insight/advice on it.
