My final doe freshened two nights ago with triplet boys!! I had come in to pee and get warm after sitting in the barn for almost two hours, as she was still contracting, but not laying down to push, fell asleep, woke up about an hour later, hurried out and she had delivered. Two were up and almost dry, the third and smallest was lying by the stall door, still in all his birth fluid and very cold, not moving. I thought he was dead, but picked him up and he mewed a little so I started rubbing him with the towel, and he began to yell. Tried to get mom interested but she wasn't having any thing to do with him. So, in we go, this was about 2:30 am, got him warmed up and a bit of colostrum in him, back out to the barn at 5:00 am, mom sniffed him, licked him and I thought, oh good, she's going to take him. I went in and dozed for a while, back out and he was standing off by himself and when I put him near her, she pushed him away. So, I held her and got him to nurse a bit but then she was getting more and more forceful with him so I brought him back in and now he's a bottle baby. I just had this situation at the end of January with my first set of triplets, my second set arrived early in March and that mom is feeding all of them, and they are doing well. So, I've had three sets of trips, and three singles. One question I have about this little guy, is about his poop. I am used to the nice golden brown they do at first, but he has produced very tarry like poop, what would cause this? He is getting goat milk and is eating well. Pee is good, just the poop is a funny colour. Sorry, no pics because my own computer is on the fritz, and am using hubby's.

Wow - three sets of triplets! That's a handful ;) You're lucky you only have the one bottle baby. As far as the poop question, baby goats produce a black, tarry poop for the first 24ish hours, and then it goes to the golden color. I'm sure your little guy is fine. Sounds like you're doing all the right stuff. :)

Ditto on the poop. That's meconium. They are meant to have that for the first day at least. When he eats more he will get rid of that.

Ok, guess I just never saw the first stuff before, it's turned yellow now. He's doing really well, taking his bottle just fine, and very active. We're on a sleep over tonight, at my mom's. He is not as big as her toy poodle! The pic is of them all the first day, he is the one beside the doe. IMG_0003.JPG
