I've seen a couple, that immediately postpartum, go plumb nuts for a few minutes if bothered. I usually let them rest a few minutes after giving birth before I even touch them or try to get them up.
(been a lot of years since I had any mature cow take a serious kick at me, but I haven't forgotten what it was like.)
