So far I have not actually found any ticks on the sheep. My dogs both had some the other night. Gave each their spring round of Frontline. I sprayed my yard, not the pasture.

Since I have hairsheep, won't be shearing- but they are all blowing coats as I type.

Are ticks something to worry about?

I have never found a tick on our sheep in 16 years. I think the lanolin is a deterrent. Not sure about ticks and hair sheep, but I've never heard about it being an issue.

ok thanks, the hair sheep have some lanolin in them as well, or at least it feels that way.

Both my dog and cat have had sheep tics.....in spite of the name 'sheep' tic, they are pretty catholic in their tastes! Usually they are in singles and can be removed with a 'tic' extractor from dogs and cats (a wire loop which closes around the 'neck of the tic and then they are gently pulled out)

Tics will take quite a lot of blood from a sheep if they are in large numbers, but more of a problem is if they bite people and transmit 'Lyme disease(bite is painless...usually on legs of adult, but anywhere on small children).

If your sheep have tics, they need to be eradicated with an appropriate 'pour on'.

I've never had tics on my sheep, the cat and dog getting them from trips to the common land behind us.

Cn you run chickens of guineas with your sheep? Guineas especially are great at eradicating ticks.

This spring, I found ticks on my hair sheep and on my woolie Finns. The dogs and cat both had ticks as well. We use Nex Guard for the dogs which works very well. A topical for the barn cat took care of his. As for the sheep, I used Ivomec drench and it worked beautifully. I personally don't think that's a long term solution. I was told that a product called CyLence applied with a small syringe (without the needle) on the back will cure the tick problem in sheep. It must be reapplied like a topical, parting the hair or wool and applying between the shoulderblades. 1ml/25lbs body weight

I also run my chickens and guineas with my sheep. They help a lot.
