Friends of mine have a 5 month old nubian buckling. I think he is starting to get hormonal, mounting the doellings(I suggested separating him for now). He was a sweet little guy but now he even appears to be attempting to mount or at least bully the people around him. I was offered this guy. If I castrate him now at 5 months old will he still be a nice pet?

I assume that when he is castrated and the hormones stop flowing he will be just a typical wether?

Or does castrating late adversely effect his personality as a pet?

I am aware that some people wait as long as 4 months to band to give the urethra a longer time to develop but I was not sure if this was for pet wethers or for maybe meat wethers that may not need to be as friendly?

Thanks

Tara

It's never too late. :D

The longer they are intact, the more likely they are to retain some bucky behaviors, but it won't be as bad.

yep, go for it. If you can fit a band on him, castrate him that way. If not, you will need to take him to the vet to be neutered surgically :)
