We have a first freshener Nigerian (pushing 2 yrs., bought her as a pair) that we weaned from the kids in early May and she still doesn't seem to lose/empty her bag to dry up completely. I will try and post pics later. We even put her in with the buck thinking that would help but it didn't. If you try and "milk" her out, just a little discolored stuff comes out and that is it. No misshapen udder or teats and she was a good little momma but no little ones have been anywhere near her lately.

Any ideas? I am new to this site, have been on BYC for a while, but not real new with animals in general. If BYH is anything like BYC, I just figured that somebody here would be able to give me some really good input/help.

Have a great day/weekend and thanks in advance for any help/interest.

There are lots of helpful goat people on here.

I wouldn't keep her with the buck - if there's something wrong, I wouldn't want to risk two goats' health. Is her udder hot or hard? When you do get the discolored stuff, what color is it? Is it lumpy? Have you given her a mastitis test?

Does she have a temperature? Is she still eating/drinking/going to the bathroom OK?

A doe that has been fresh will not completely lose her udder. As long as it is not Hot and Hard... she is fine.

(kinda like us wimen don't lose it... (usually)... )

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and input. I'm sorry that I didn't respond earlier and post pics but I don't think it is necessary now. No hard and hot udder here so I think that she will be okay but I will keep and eye on her. I spent the day working on vehicles with my boy and still need to go out and do some more work so I better go. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and thanks again.

The off-colored liquid concerns me. My dry does don't do that. I do have one that does though. She has chronic low-grade mastitis in one half of her udder, and it fills up with a watery clearish tan fluid instead of milk.
