Well here's a pic or two of our almost 4 month old little guy Bogo. He sure is growing fast!

We call that kind of marking "chrome".

As in:
Have some solid blacks (with stein?) in the woodpile - - this year got some chromed up calves that have the SH like white steaks.
Have a chromed up reg Simi heifer with white stockings - - she threw a blaze face...

Most places, buyers will dock your calves and steers if they're chromed up.

We just started to breed and raise Western Heritage cattle here at Little Friends Farm. He's our first little steer, and are expecting to continue to grow our herd this spring.

Good call GB....he does have a good bunch of LH in him. I'm pretty sure that Western Heritage is considered a breed. There's no registry that I know of though.

From what I can gather via the internet, it's a specific breed but rather a group of several breeds that were prevalent in the US post-civil war era just before the herefords were imported to the midwest and ended the need for the cattle drives up from the SW US.
"Western Heritage" cattle are usually LH, Corriente, oxen or one of several mostly obscure breeds recognized by The Livestock Conservancy group.

I've seen the annual Western Heritage drive in San Antonio. It was made up of mostly LH and Corriente.

I know ours have LH, Zebu, Hereford, Dexter. I guess they are the "mutts" of the mini world. I'm fine with that,I just like the way they look with the brindle's and the paint and all the great colors that they have. Plus they're really docile and make great pets for small farms.
